Bargain Hunting at Rogers Community Auction

The small town of Rogers is 4.3 miles north on S.R. 7 and is home to one of the Midwest’s largest free-admission, open-air flea markets and auctions, boasting more than 3 miles and 1300 stalls with everything from fresh produce to Grandma’s attic junk. Camp early in the week and check out the farmers and folks from across the state buying and selling goodies from their barns, basements and garages at the monthly farm machinery and “miscellaneous” auction. It’s a hoot and it’s held year-round on the first Tuesday of every month. In Rogers you’ll find a post office, friendly, corner gas station and a grocery, which offers supplies from propane to plastic forks!

Hike, Bike and Jeep Around Historic Landmarks

Beaver Creek State Park, with its covered bridge, pioneer village, working grist mill, and miles of hiking trails, is about 3 miles south of Lock 30. For the avid golfer, there are two golf courses, located less than five minutes away, with a half dozen more within thirty minutes. The serious cyclist can hit the Little Beaver Creek Greenway Trail www.bicycletrail.com located just 6 miles east (in Lisbon) The trail, set on the rail bed of the of the former Erie Lackawanna Railroad, offers 12 miles of paved biking/walking trails from Lisbon to Leetonia.

Just 11 miles north of Lock 30 is the quaint village of Columbiana, with its offerings of antique shops, casual dining restaurants, fast-food establishments, banks, a bowling alley, and department/grocery stores. The Hummel Gift Shop offering 30,000 square feet of Hummel and Royal Dalton figurines, is conveniently located just north of Columbiana off S.R. 7. Eat, Gamble or Shop Till You Drop

Forgot to pack that important item? No worries! Ten minutes south of Lock 30 in the East Liverpool/Calcutta area, you’ll find a shopper’s paradise with a Super WalMart, K-mart, Big Lots, Dollar Store and various grocery/department stores and seasonal farm markets. Restaurants will suit every palate, from fast food to fine dining, including local’s favorites: the Hot Dog Shoppe, Bruno’s Pizza, Bruster’s Ice Cream, Adrian’s, Yanni’s Café, Gregory’s, Maxi’s Lunchbox, and many more, including the familiar Dairy Queen. Combine fine dining with a glimpse of historic preservation at the artfully restored Spread Eagle Tavern in nearby Hanoverton.
